What you see…
The part of Tessa Henley that she allows everybody to see of her is the one that is expected. This is the one she has had since she was a young girl and will probably have for the rest of her life. This is her innocent side. In public, she puts on this act, or at least she uncovers it again. What you can see of her is a bubbly, jovial girl that never lets anything get to her or bring her down from her state of complete and utter happiness. She almost always has a smile on her face, and it is a rare moment in which she can go longer than ten minutes without laughing.
Along with all of this happiness and sweetness is a case of naivety; one that is impossible to hide. She has always been a very trusting person, and the thought that bad things exist in the world…She doesn’t want to even imagine it. So, by doing this she casts a blind eye upon quite a bit of the world, thus causing her to be a bit stupid. It does not take much to earn her trust, and once you have it, no matter what you do, you probably won’t lose it.
…And what you don’t
The largest portion of her personality is the side that only one person in the world knows, and that is her boyfriend, Lucien. He is the only one who knows how to make her feel weak and depressed. It is because of him that she finds herself worried when she is at home, and distressed about when he might arrive, or when she might have to go see him. However, this does not make her love him any less, because she knows that he must have some sort of feelings for her.
Tessa has absolutely no self confidence when she is around him, and cannot help but act like a little girl who needs to be led around. Lucien makes her feel like she has to rely on other people, that she isn’t capable. He is the only one who knows of her bad side, and for that she is grateful. What can you do when you are in love, even if your loves tortures you mentally and causes you to sometimes have mental breakdowns and wake up screaming in the middle of the night because of a nightmare you had of him…
GENERAL DESCRIPTION. Tessa stands at approximately 5’6” and weighs in at 110 pounds. Her body is very thin and not at all muscular, for if she was, she would weigh a bit more than the meagre amount that she does. She appears as though she does not eat too much, but she is very well fed – mostly on sweets. She normally wears skirts, but pants on occasion, especially if it is cold out. She always does her best to be sure that her stomach and back are covered though, because they are covered in scars that look like the drawings of a young child.
She has black hair that falls around her shoulders, and her eyes are a light brown colour. Her expression is usually that of happiness, or joyfulness, but if she is around Lucien, she is either forcing a smile, or she is crying.

HISTORY. Tessa probably had one of the most sheltered childhood’s known to man. Her parents were ridiculously protective of their little Tessa from the moment she was born, to the day she left home. She was born on the 20th of February to two already very distressed parents, who went by the names of Tabitha and Kyle Henley. The reason for which they were so upset on Tessa’s birthday was because this was the same day that their four year old son, James, was diagnosed with leukemia. Though they were pleased by the birth of their little baby girl, they were also absolutely horrified at the thought of what their son would have to go through.
And thus, Tessa became the child that they protected from the world. They did not allow her to play outside without supervision until she was ten years old, because she could have hurt herself. She was rarely allowed to go over to her friend’s houses because perhaps her parents did not trust the parents of her friends, or simply because they did not know what they would be doing at every second of the day. She couldn’t even use knives because her parents were scared that she would cut herself. Forks were also out of the question for quite a while, too.
Tessa and her brother had a very good relationship, even though he was often in the hospital more than he was home, and there was a four year difference in their ages. James would often read stories to his sister, who he liked to call Tessie, because he thought it was an “adorable name for an adorable little girl”, and Tessa loved him greatly. There had been no happier day in her life than the day James was declared cancer free by his doctors when Tessa was eight years old, and James twelve.
However, there had been no darker day than when, a few days after Tessa turned ten, her brother was diagnosed once again, but this time, they caught it too late. His cancer was now terminal; her older brother who she loved so dearly was going to die. Now, at this time in her life, Tessa did not fully understand the finality of her death, and when he brother passed away a few days later, she did not comprehend why they had put him into a box and was putting him in the ground. She had thrown herself onto the fresh grave and had begun to dig, crying and saying that you “cannot bury my brother in the dirt, because he is only asleep for a while!” Her parents had brought her back home sobbing, where they explained to her what had happened.
It was then that Tessa began to collect Pokémon, using them to fill the gap in her heart where her brother used to be, though they didn’t really compare. She didn’t really do much with these Pokémon, aside from keep them as pets. She didn’t want to compete in tournaments or continue to catch them, or join any of the groups that she had heard about. All that she wanted to do was hug them and allow them to keep her spirits up when she became sad thinking of her brother.
Until Tessa turned eighteen, there was not much happening in her life. She spent most of her time just going to school and chatting to her Pokémon, worrying about life and getting a good career. She lived like any other young adult woman would…And then she met him. Lucien. It didn’t take her long to fall in love with him…He was absolutely beautiful after all, and something about his personality was quite simply enticing. She didn’t realize what she was getting herself into at the time. She thought that a kind, caring man loved her as much as she loved him. He took her out, he spent time with her, he made sure that she was nothing but happy. Eventually, he coaxed her to make love with him, never once calling it by the crude words that many now did. He made sure that she thought that he was the perfect man, the one who would forever be the one she loved.
It didn’t take long for things to change, and for Lucien to show his true, violent nature. He did things to her that she didn’t ever want to think about or speak of, threatening to torture her and everyone that she loved if she so much as said a word of their real relationship to anybody. He made sure to keep her on a tight leash, never really allowing her any freedom. Lucien knew exactly what to say and exactly what to do to keep her under control, and she knew that she could never leave him, and she has already been with Lucien for two years.
Over time, she has grown to envy her brother.
