Lone Soldier: Ryu is not the type to be a part of any group or travel with a bunch of friends. He prefers being alone, just him and his pokemon as he travels down the roads. It’s been that way from the very beginning and this most likely won’t change with him. This isn’t to say that he has never and will never travel with others. He’s done it before but never for long periods of time. He can be in the situations for a bit, but quickly has to go his own way. This also isn’t to say that he hates being around others. He can handle the larger more busy cities and he’s accustomed to the crowds that gather to watch tournaments. He has a few friends, but even they’ve come to understand that Ryu just prefers to have things his way.
Arrogance: Ryu has grown to think very highly of himself. This is often exhibited when others try to offer him advice or give their own opinions. He may offer them nothing more than a cynical response, and a cold shoulder. Unless you happen to be one of the few friends I mentioned earlier, you might expect this sort of response from him. Another area where his arrogance shines through is in the midst of battle. If he’s doing well he may throw insults at both the opposing trainer and pokemon, just to make the wound of losing even deeper.
Hard Working: Though he may be arrogant, in many ways he can back it up. Ryu works very hard at everything he does, and he instills this same nature into his squad of pokemon. He is constantly striving to grow stronger and become a better trainer, something many people have grown to respect about him, despite his attitude problem. Ryu often works so hard that he and his pokemon reach the point of exhaustion. Failure is not an option for this trainer, and sometimes that can bite him in the you know what.
Just: Ryu doesn’t come off as the type to defend anyone but himself, but for those that he cares about he will defend them to the death. Like I said, it’s a slim list, but if you just happen to be one of those few, he’ll have your back.
Competitive: Another trait that tends to be a double edge sword for Ryu is his competitive nature. I mentioned that he hates to lose earlier but its more than that. Should someone claim to be better than him he takes it pretty personal and has to prove them wrong just to shut them up. Should he win, he'll take a few minutes to rub it in their face of course, but if they actually stand by their word and best him, the anger can be easily seen in his eyes. He knows that all trainers must lose every so often, and he's trying to get over it, but its just something about losing that he can't shake. Ever since he was a child running around with his brother Kenji, who beat him at everything, he's hated being the loser.
Afraid: Ryu isn't afraid of very many things in this world but ironically one thing he is afraid of is dying alone. Ever since that fateful day between him and his brother Kenji he's had the fear that they would never reconcile their relationship and he wouldn't have anyone by his side when his life ends. This is something he hides from everyone and it would take a miracle to get it out of the stubborn young man.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION.
Ryu Hayate is certainly not your average, run of the mill trainer. He doesn’t dress or act like most of them. Let’s start with his physical presence. Ryu stands at 5’9” so he’s not the tallest guy out there, but he’s not a midget either. He weighs in at 155 pounds. He isn’t jacked with muscle, but he isn’t scrawny either. He’s just stuck somewhere in the middle I suppose.
His hair is jet black with locks that hang down or blow over his face, in a strong enough wind. His eyes, at a first glance, look as if they match his hair. His dark pupils often give people the impression that his eyes are pitch black inside and can be a little intimidating to some. Up close however, you can see that they are just a very dark brown, and not so different than many others. The others features on his face are rather soft, something that runs within the men of his family.
As far as his attire goes, it’s somewhat different. He is usually seen wearing either a navy blue or white robe like vest that needs to be tied around the waist to stay closed. The robes hang down and stop a little above his knees. The belt that he uses to tie it around his waist is more like a thick rope than a belt, but it gets the job done effectively. His pants are usually a navy color, often matching the color of the robe he’s sporting. He doesn’t carry too many accessories, but when traveling, he has a black hooded cloak that he is always wearing.

HISTORY.
Ryu Hayate was the second son of Aiko and Kenji Hayate. He was born in the Johto region, in Golden Rod City. Growing up in such a large place, Ryu and his older brother Kai were always getting into mischief. They were the very best of friends, only a year apart, and did everything together. They were literally inseparable. As they grew up they both found a natural love for pokemon and even at the young ages of five and six knew they wanted nothing more than to become trainers. Over the next few years they began to dream about the day they would go off together and start their adventures. They promised that they would always stick together and have each other’s backs through thick and thin. It was the perfect plan.
At the age of ten, Ryu and his brother set off on their journey. They stuck to the Johto region for the first several years, but something happened between the two brothers. One night they camped out in the forest. Ryu fell asleep early and Kenji ventured off on his own, not too far from their camp but he wasn’t quite tired yet. Ryu on the other had had gone through a rigorous battle that day and was completely worn out. He fell asleep and was out like a light. While Kenji was off exploring the night, bandits spotted their camp sight and Ryu asleep. Kenji had foolishly left two of his pokeballs inside of his tent rather than carrying them on his person, and it cost him. The bandits took everything they could get their hands on without waking Ryu. When kenji returned he was livid. He originally just figured Ryu was playing a prank on him, but his pokemon were in fact stolen. Kenji blamed Ryu for the entire thing, and from that day forward the two brothers went their separate ways.
Since then Ryu has remained alone, only seeing his brother once or twice since that day. Over the years he’s visited several different regions, collecting pokemon from all over. That night with his brother Kenji has stuck with him ever since then and since he hasn’t allowed himself to grow close to very many people. There have been a few that managed to break through his rough exterior and earn his friendship, but they are few and far between.
Having explored all over the world it was time for Ryu to continue moving on. His next stop was the Matsunoki region.

Finally, after waiting what seemed like ages, Alex was on his way. For years he’d been able to do nothing more than listen to his parents and his brothers stories about their own adventures. Never able to venture out and have his own. That was now a thing of the past. He was now in the Torrenta region, mere moments from claiming his first pokemon. He had been extremely anxious since he left his home town, and the train ride seemed to last way longer than it was supposed to. He’d managed to pass the time by talking to the others in his train cart; a couple of breeders traveling together. Their stories were great but he was sick of listening. He wanted to tell others about his adventures.
He stepped off the train and immediately saw the sign, “Pokemon Lab Straight Ahead.” His smile widened and he took off down the street. Before he knew it he was standing in front of a huge automated door. He took a single step forward and the doors whizzed open. Once inside he saw so many things he hadn’t seen before. The lab was another place he’d heard about, but never experienced for himself. He looked all around him as assistants moved back and forth, with files and papers in their hands. He avoided bumping into any of them, but came close a few times.
Once he made it to the front desk he rang the little bell that sat in front of him. “Hello? I’m here for my first pokemon.” He turned back to look and see if any of the assistants he’d passed by would step forward to help him. He just wanted to get his pokemon and get started on his journey. He already knew he wanted the chimchar, as it had always been one of his favorites. In and out was the plan, but things were going slower than he’d hoped.
